Samsung Researcher Appointed Vice Chair of the 3GPP System Architecture Working Group


Following elections in May, Andrew Bennett, head of 5G Standards at Samsung R&D Institute United Kingdom (SRUK) has been appointed Vice Chair of the 3GPP System Architecture Working Group 2 (SA WG2) for the fourth time.

3GPP unites seven regional telecoms standards development organizations (ARIB, ATIS, CCSA, ETSI, TSDSI, TTA, TTC) for the development of specifications defining technologies deployed in mobile networks around the world. SA WG2 is the group responsible for developing the overall Core Network, IP Multimedia Subsystem and User Equipment system architecture within this organization.

3GPP has developed technology standards for 3G, LTE, LTE-Advanced, LTE Advanced Pro, and 5G, through the involvement and participation of all major network equipment vendors, user equipment vendors and network operators from Korea, China, Japan, Europe and North America. Andrew forms part of the SA WG2 leadership team, along with colleagues from Intel and China Mobile.
