Samsung Research receives Common Criteria Certification for “TrustWare”

“TrustWare”, a secure operating system (OS) developed by Samsung Research, recently received Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 2+ certification from the Netherlands Scheme for Certification in the Area of IT Security (NSCIB).

Common Criteria (CC) is the most widely recognized and comprehensive IT security standard in the world and is defined as ISO 15408, which is used to certify any IT system or device providing security functions. Common Criteria was initially published in 1998 with a goal to create a common assessment standard for evaluation. “TrustWare” received an Evaluation Assurance Level 2+ grade certification working closely with Brightsight’s evaluation lab and Samsung R&D Institute Poland (SRPOL).

By receiving formal recognition of “TrustWare”’s Security, Samsung expects to increase the security awareness in its products.

“TrustWare” offers a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) on ARM TrustZone that complies with Global Platform TEE standards. “TrustWare” provides a platform that can handle sensitive information such as biometric authentication information and financial data. Samsung expects solutions developed with “TrustWare” to protect sensitive information from software vulnerabilities and exploits. Today, “TrustWare” is embedded in various Samsung products, Smart TVs and Family Hub powered Refrigerators to name a few.

“We are delighted to hear that the international CC certification body officially acknowledged the excellence of our security technology. As such, we will continue to exert our best efforts to continuously provide reliable and secure products to our customers,” said Daniel Ahn, head of the security team at Samsung Research.
