On 27 October, Friday, Samsung R&D Institute Bangladesh (SRBD) organized the final round of SRBD Code Contest 2023 at its premises. A glorious occasion for showcasing the flair for programming, this contest welcomed around 2000 participants from more than 100 educational institutes across the country, of which 50 contestants reached the final round. Mr. Shahriar Manzoor, Chairman and Associate Professor at Department of CSE, Southeast University, graced the event as the Chief Guest of the closing ceremony.
Prior to the final round, two preliminary qualification rounds preceded it. Those rounds took place on online platform and comprised bunch of problem solving questions that tested the capabilities of participants in different programming languages.
The final round problem is not similar to other competitive programming contests and participants had limited time and resource to solve this. Eventually, Jubayer Nirjhor from University of Dhaka came out as the Champion. Alongside him, Kumol Kumar Paul from University of Rajshahi and Sk Sabit Bin Mosaddek from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology stood 1st and 2nd Runner Up respectively. Besides them, 7 other contestants got into the leaderboard of top 10 among all the final round participants.
In the aftermath of the contest, a closing ceremony was held to recognize and decorate the winners. At the beginning of the ceremony, the Managing Director, Mr. Wonmo Ku, addressed the turnout on behalf of SRBD and underlined the company’s efforts to facilitate and bolster a sustainable software development ecosystem in Bangladesh.
Afterwards, Mr. Abdullah Al Baki, Supervisor of Contest Question Setter Panel, highlighted the merit and complexity of the questions in the contest. He signified the praiseworthy effort of the panel in setting the problems as unique as possible. Thereafter, Mr. Ku and Mr. Manzoor were both called onto the stage for handing out the awards and certificates to the winners.
Moving forward, Mr. Manzoor was requested to stay on stage to deliver his speech. The Chief Guest, a pioneer of competitive programming and a prominent face in this arena of Bangladesh, expressed his satisfaction to SRBD for organizing this event. He also wished that not only the winners but also all the other participants would carry the zeal to achieve bigger milestones in international contests. The ceremony ended with a group photo session of all the participants and top officials of SRBD.
