Researcher at Samsung Research America Wins David Sarnoff Medal from SMPTE in 2021

Dr. Youngkwon Lim at Samsung Research America’s Standards and Mobility Innovation Lab has been recently awarded with David Sarnoff Medal from Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) in 2021. 



SMPTE, founded in 1916, is a global professional association of engineers, technologists, and executives working in the media and entertainment industry, and has published more than 800 technical standards and related documents for broadcast, filmmaking, digital cinema, audio recording, information technology (IT), and medical imaging. 

The David Sarnoff Medal, established in 1950, recognizes outstanding contributions to the development of new techniques or equipment that have improved the engineering phases of television technology, including large-venue presentations. 

Dr. Youngkwon Lim contributed Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0 development as Chair of Specialist Group on Management and Protocols. In addition he is serving as Chair of Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) Systems Working Group. This award reflects the strong technical leadership that Samsung has demonstrated in broadcast and multimedia industry. His expertise in this industry will be further contributed to lead Samsung in next-generation broadcast and multimedia technology.
