Samsung R&D Institute UK (SRUK)’s TV standardization team member, Richard Moreton, presented and demonstrated “Relumino” as part of a talk on TV accessibility and sustainability at the RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People) Inclusive Design for Sustainability Conference (Glasgow, 21–22 June 2023).
Inclusive Design for Sustainability is a conference pioneered by RNIB, the UK’s leading sight loss charity, with support from partners in the global technology community. Samsung has worked with RNIB for nearly a decade, ensuring its products are suited with the most efficient features to offer accessibility for all consumers.
Relumino, available from May 2023, is a new feature that can help improve the TV viewing experience for viewers with blurry vision. It works by analyzing live broadcast video and applying both edge enhancement and color controls to make outlines more prominent and to make colors stronger. Users can control the strength and color of the edge enhancement that is applied by the TV making it suitable for a wider range of users.
Richard gave a presentation introducing the feature and also introduced other accessibility features on our TV plus two “How-to-videos” [Accessibility How-to: Hearing | Samsung TV - YouTube, Accessibility How-to: Vision | Samsung TV - YouTube] which were made by the HQ Accessibility team to help guide consumers on to how make use of these features. In addition to the presentation a demonstration was given to attendees of the conference.
