On a special mission beyond borders

Imprints of Samsung Digital City, Korea on Madhupa Chowdhury’s memory

Imagine what if your dream of working in one of the most advanced countries which also happens to be your company’s headquarters, becomes a reality! Madhupa Chowdhury, who works in Visual Intelligence R&D Group of Samsung R&D Bangalore (SRI-B) is one of the recent returnee who was deputed in Samsung Digital City, Korea as part of Samsung R&D’s Global Mobility Programme (GMP).

GMP candidature is purely based on potential and a few qualify the tough nomination and selection criteria for this highly coveted program, where only the best and the brightest are selected from amongst the several R&D centers spread across the world. Madhupa, was therefore, elated at her selection to be a part of the larger Samsung family and the opportunity to cross collaborate and learn cross cultural nuances. As the Technical Project Manager (TPM), she got a very favourable impression of the work culture and efficient practices of her Korean colleagues. On her return now, she intends to implement two key observations at SRI-B. The well-knit collaboration across teams during critical project delivery and time management during meetings has etched a lasting impression on her. The simple practice of sharing all the documents in advance is very effective as it helps the attendees to be well prepared for a quick and constructive discussion.

As Madhupa recalls, “Samsung provided a great opportunity to learn from our Korean counterparts. The visit to Gumi, the manufacturing plant as well as multiple other places in the beautiful country was quite enriching. Was delighted to continue my Toastmaster's club journey from SRI-B to Korea and also contribute my bit by volunteering to clean up a stream near our office. I made some great friends and have fond memories, although had to return early and regret missing out on viewing the cherry blossoms.”

Serving a tenure of ten and half years with SRI-B, she co-incidentally served ten and half months during her GMP deputation before being flown back home on a short notice. Madhupa is one of the nineteen members who were deputed on GMP this year. She was safely brought back and united with her family in a proactive attempt by Samsung to avoid any inconvenience before the lockdown announcement due to COVID-19 situation.
