Gary Xu, Vice President of Research at Samsung Research America’s Standards and Mobility Innovation team, was recently awarded with the 2022 IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) Outstanding Forum Speaker Award for his presentation titled “6G Communications: Vision and Challenges.”
IEEE ISSCC is the leading global conference for advances in solid-state circuits and systems-on-a-chip.
The award was presented during the 2023 IEEE ISSCC conference which took place from February 19-23, 2023 in San Francisco, CA. The Outstanding Forum Speaker recognition is awarded based on attendee ratings from the previous year’s conference.
Gary's presentation focused on Samsung's vision for 6G, covering a range of topics including potential use cases, requirements, new spectrum opportunities, and standardization timelines. He provided a detailed analysis of several emerging technologies, sharing insight into their benefits and challenges in relation to future 6G products. During the presentation, Gary also demonstrated Samsung's latest 6G research progress through feasibility tests. The goal of the talk was to motivate researchers in the semiconductor field to work on these challenging technologies and contribute to the development of 6G.
The team has been working closely with Advanced Communications Research Center at Samsung Research, academia and industry partners to advance 6G research since 2018.
