Dr. Jin-Kyu Han, Vice President of Samsung Research, awarded with the Bronze Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit

Each year on October 14, the members of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and International Telecommunication Union (ITU) celebrate World Standards Day.
In Korea, The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) organized a ceremony to celebrate this year’s occasion and the 60th anniversary of Korean Industrial Standards (KS) on November 22, 2021.

At the ceremony, Dr. Jin-Kyu Han, a Vice President of Samsung Research and head of the Standards Research Team, was awarded the Order of Industrial Service Merit, Bronze Tower. This order recognizes an individual’s outstanding meritorious services in the interest of developing Korean national industries.
Dr. Han was recognized with this award for his contribution to global standardization.

Dr. Han was elected in 2018 and served from 2019 to 2021 as a member of the Standards Management Board (SMB) at IEC, an international standards organization that prepares and publishes international standards for a vast range of electrical, electronic, and related technologies. During this period, he chaired the mirror committee, where Korean IEC experts gathered and discussed standardization in IEC.

Dr. Han was also recognized for fostering 6G research activities in Samsung Research.
The company published a 6G vision white paper in 2020 and demonstrated sub-THz digital beamforming in 2021. As a global standardization effort, Hyoungjin Choi from the Standards Research Team has been appointed as Chair of the Vision Group on international mobile telecommunications (IMT) toward 2030 and beyond (6G) at the ITU-Radiocommunication (ITU-R) Working Party (WP) 5D Assembly.

Dr. Han and his team have contributed not only to de jure standardization but also to various de facto standardization processes, e.g., the FiRa Consortium, where stakeholders work together to produce ultra-wideband (UWB) technical specifications. Samsung Electronics is one of the founding members of the FiRa Consortium.
