Dr. Howard Benn (Head of Communications Research at SRUK) elected as a new Fellow of IET and ITP

Dr. Howard Benn, Vice President of Communications Research at SRUK, has been made a Fellow of both the Institute of Engineering and Technology and the Institute of Telecommunications Professionals. Both of these honors are rewarded for Howard’s dedication to the telecoms industry over the last 40 years, and for 30 years of continuous contribution to the world of mobile phone standards from 2G to 5G.

The UK based IET is a sister organization to the US based IEEE. In fact is it really the other way around, with the IET being formed in 1871, whereas the IEEE was not started until 1884. Both organisations have similar goals with different levels of membership to recognise outstanding contributions to the world of engineering.

The ITP was founded in 1906 as part of the UK Post Office (which became BT) to help develop engineering skills and technology. This remains the organisations key goal, to recruit, train and mentor apprentices, and generally support STEM education to develop the next generation of telecommunications engineers.

As an advisor to UK universities and Government with 28 years of service to mobile phone standards as well as a leader of Communications Research at SRUK, Dr. Howard Benn’s new Fellow roles of IET and ITP will ensure Samsung Research to lead European communications research!
