A Decade with Hundreds of Indonesian Digital Talents, Samsung R&D Institute Indonesia Builds New Talents through Samsung Innovation Campus

Jakarta, July 14, 2022 – This year, Samsung R&D Institute Indonesia (SRIN) commemorates their 10 years of work as Samsung's research and development center in Indonesia. A decade together with hundreds of Indonesian digital talents, SRIN has developed various applications from Samsung by utilizing a local-to-global approach. Together with Samsung Electronics Indonesia (SEIN), SRIN also plays its role in building young digital talents who are competent and able to compete in 4.0 Industry through the Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC) program.

Risman Adnan, Director of Software R&D, SRIN said, “In creating and developing software applications or programs, SRIN has the ability to understand and meet consumer needs which is carried out by our strong research team. In the last 10 years, SRIN together with hundreds of young Indonesian digital talents have worked with laboratory facilities in the fields of mobile application services, AI, IoT, Cloud, and Data Management, innovation services, to B2B innovation."

During ten years of its journey in Indonesia, SRIN has been involved in the commercialization of services and helped Samsung to be the one and only mobile communication device manufacturer in Indonesia that can fulfill the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) with applications created by SRIN, such as Samsung Gift Indonesia, Samsung Pay Indonesia, Salaam, S-Lime, and App Station for the latest Samsung Galaxy devices in regional and global markets. The benefits of this application development have been enjoyed by millions of Samsung smartphone consumers in Indonesia.

All of this can be realized through combining technology, solutions, and services to create the next generation of mobile products and services, in three pillars, namely building competent and relevant R&D; conducting applied and advanced research where intellectual property development becomes a priority at SRIN; and build partnerships and collaborations with leading universities and corporations who believe in the importance of R&D in order to go forward and grow.

In addition to work with Indonesian digital talents who have joined SRIN, SRIN also plays a role in building and developing new young digital talents through the SIC program. Together with SEIN, SRIN participates in fostering and evaluating the works of SIC participants.

Ennita Pramono, Head of Corporate Citizenship at Samsung Electronics Indonesia said, “SIC program is Samsung Electronics Indonesia's commitment to build a young generation that is competent and able to compete in 4.0 Industry. We offer opportunities for young people to improve their job prospects and get practical training in technology as a preparation for them to enter the working world in the midst of limited human resources, especially digital talent, which is very much needed in future's society."

Data from the Ministry of Manpower shows that in 2021 the number of workers in the national ICT sector will only be around 1 million people and the need for workers in this sector is projected to continue to increase until 2025, especially in the fields of network operation access, network operation backbone, and software engineers.1 The SIC program is in line with the Vocational Revitalization mission from the Ministry of Education and Culture, Research, and Technology to create good quality student graduates to answer the industry needs that continue to increase along with the acceleration of digital interaction in the 4.0 industry era.

Through SIC, SRIN and SEIN are committed to provide students and teachers as well as encourage the participants' mindset in responding to social problems in their surrounding environment with digital projects or solutions. Until now, the SIC program has reached 87 schools, 1,529 students, and 189 teachers and will continue to grow in the future.

The Samsung Innovation Campus 2021-2022 itself has entered the 3rd Phase, which include coding and programming training as well as IoT Product Development. In the SIC Program Batch 3 – 20/21, there were 3,076 students who registered, of which 1,000 students were selected, and 150 teachers could join the next program. And in the 3rd Batch, which is currently running, it has passed the selection of 100 participants/25 teams and 22 teachers as supervisors from 16 schools to join the bootcamp in the 3rd Phase, which was held from June to September 2022, where participants will join the IoT Product Development Bootcamp, pitching workshop & coaching, and Demo Day/Culminating Event.

“The present of SRIN in the SIC program also plays a role in changing the way students think. The development of skill development and continuous exploration to find solution ideas to solve problems in the surrounding community or environment becomes our targets in providing learning that is more systematic, logical, critical, and innovative. We will continue to support SIC to develop an inspirational teaching technique to spark student interest in new things, especially in fields related to coding and programming and produce digital solutions that are beneficial to the community," concluded Risman Adnan.
