Sebastian Seung, Elected as a New Foreign Member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea

Sebastian Seung, President and Head of Samsung Research, Samsung Electronics’ research and development (R&D) organization leading the technological future of Samsung Electronics, was elected new foreign member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea for 2022.

The National Academy of Engineering of Korea is one of the most prestigious academic organizations in the Korean engineering and technology sector. This special-purpose entity was founded to identify and honor engineers and technologists who have made remarkable contributions to the technological development in universities, companies, and research institutes, and to contribute to Korea’s creative engineering technology development through academic research and supporting projects. The academy has around 300 members who are selected through a screening process after serving as associate members for three years.

As President of Samsung Research, Seung has been leading the organization’s efforts to shape the future of Samsung Electronics since 2020. Previously, he was the Chief Research Scientist (CRS) of Samsung Research to develop the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) strategies and provided consultation on previous research in the area since 2018, thereby supporting the foundation of the Global AI Center and recruiting the best talents in the AI sector.
