Samsung Research America (SRA) is pleased to announce that Mr. Kyeongin Jeong has been re-elected as Vice Chair of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Radio Access Network Working Group 2 (RAN WG 2).
3GPP is the world’s largest telecommunications standards development organization, established in 1998 to unite telecommunication companies and organizations around the world. Its members include major industry players such as Samsung, Qualcomm, Apple, Ericsson, Nokia, and Huawei.
RAN Working Group 2 is responsible for developing the radio communication protocol standards that define how handsets and base stations communicate. In his role as Vice Chair, Mr. Jeong will continue to lead discussions on critical topics for both 5G-Advanced and future 6G technologies, including as AI/ML-based mobility management, lower-layer (Layer 1/2) triggered mobility, and network energy savings.
“It is a great honor to be re-elected as Vice Chair of 3GPP RAN Working Group 2,” said Mr. Jeong. “I look forward to continuing close collaboration with global experts to advance 5G-Advanced and pave the way for 6G, helping shape the future of mobile communications for people and industries worldwide.”
With this re-election, Samsung reinforces its leadership within 3GPP and underscores its commitment to driving innovation across the global telecommunications industry. In addition to its active role in developing the ongoing 5G-Advanced standards, Samsung is laying the groundwork for 6G in collaboration with 3GPP member companies, aiming for commercialization around 2030.
