Jim Jian Wu, a member of Samsung R&D Institute United Kingdom’s Communication Standards Lab, has been recognized by GSMA (GSM Association, Headquartered in London, UK) for his major contribution to GSMA’s Terminal Steering Group (TSG). GSMA is the advocacy organization for the mobile communications industry, bringing together mobile operators, vendors and other key stakeholders. Originally created to support operators using GSM, GSMA has evolved to become a major player in supporting interoperability between all key stakeholders that use mobile technology. Operators are full members, while vendors (including Samsung) are associate members.
Over the years, SRUK Communication Standards staff have held multiple leadership position in key strategic organizations and committees within the mobile telcos ecosystem, including 3GPP, ETSI, GSA, and GSMA. SRUK has led Samsung’s work on GSMA’s Europe-related activities for many years, with Jim fronting this business-critical activity for over a decade. SRUK have a long-standing interest in GSMA due to its critical role in protecting Samsung’s technology, ensuring interoperability, promoting 3GPP specifications, and minimizing impact of testing and certification on our devices. Jim has held multiple leadership roles within GSMA, including his current role as Deputy Chair of the TSG, where he has made major contribution to TSG becoming one of leading work groups within GSMA. For this work, the Director General of GSMA presented Jim in December 2025 with an award for outstanding contributions to the TSG.
This most recent recognition adds to the long list of external and internal accolades received by SRUK Standards over its decades of tireless contribution to Samsung’s global standardization mission, and – crucially – to Samsung’s highly regarded position within the European telco ecosystem.
