Samsung R&D Institute India–Bangalore (SRI-B) and the Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT Patna) today marked a key milestone in their ongoing research collaboration through a virtual R&D Agreement Exchange Ceremony. The event celebrated joint accomplishments in 5G and artificial intelligence (AI) research and formally launched a new project focused on intelligent 5G New Radio networks.
Samsung R&D Institute India–Bangalore is Samsung’s largest R&D center outside South Korea and India’s No. 1 patent filer. Through collaborations with leading academic institutions, SRI-B is advancing next-generation technologies in areas such as AI, 5G and 6G, while helping strengthen India’s innovation ecosystem.
The virtual ceremony was attended by Mohan Rao, Corporate Vice President & Managing Director, SRI-B, Dr. T.N. Singh, Director, IIT Patna, Dean of R&D, Prof. Preetam Kumar from IIT Patna, Heejun Song, Lakshminarayanan Ramachandran, Amritesh Srivastava from the University Collaboration Team, SRI-B, and Dr. Sukhdeep from the Network Control Intelligence Team at SRI-B.

The ceremony recognized the successful completion of two projects undertaken by IIT Patna in collaboration with SRI-B’s Network Control Intelligence Team:
• AI-Driven Multi-Scale Unified Robust SSB Channel Estimation in 5G and Beyond, which explored multi-scale AI models to enhance the resilience of channel estimation in complex 5G wireless environments.
• Deep Reinforcement Learning-Based Call Quality Enhancement in O-RAN, which applied advanced reinforcement-learning techniques to optimize real-time user experience and voice-call quality across Open RAN architectures.
The two projects resulted in two research papers accepted at IEEE GLOBECOM 2025 in Taipei, Taiwan, reinforcing the potential of industry-academia collaboration to create globally relevant research and intellectual property.
Building on these achievements, SRI-B and IIT Patna also announced the launch of AI-Driven Bearer Orchestration (PAIBO) for 5G New Radio Networks, a new joint project led by SRI-B’s Network Modem Team.
PAIBO will explore dynamic, AI-driven radio-bearer orchestration to improve network performance, efficiency and Quality of Experience (QoE) in real time. The initiative is designed to address emerging challenges in intelligent radio-resource management as 5G networks evolve toward 6G.
Other members of this project include: Rahul Saini, Manish Kumar Soni and Sukhdeep Singh from SRI-B, Ankit Kumar, Adarsh Ravi from IIT Patna.
Through this partnership, SRI-B and IIT Patna will continue to pursue impactful research, foster high-value intellectual property and contribute to the technologies and telecom standards that will define the next generation of connectivity.
