What’s the one thing that would drive you to give your best at work every day? For most engineers at Samsung R&D Institute India – Bangalore (SRI-B), the answer is almost always just one thing – the technology they get to work on.
Being Samsung’s largest software R&D centre outside of South Korea, SRI-B boasts an extensive innovation portfolio, leveraging cutting-edge technology to develop creative solutions for our consumers. Here, terms like Augmented Reality, Extended Reality, Artificial Intelligence, etc. aren’t just trending topics – For budding engineers like S Krithiha, a member of the Immersive XR Team at SRI-B, they are tech domains that they get to explore and work on every day. It’s the focus on research and technology that drives her, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

As a young girl, Krithiha was quite studious, always ranking among the top 3 even while in school. While most institutes would present such students with certificates in recognition of their achievement, her school followed a unique practice – they were rewarded with books. When she was in the second grade, having yet again earned impressive scores, she was presented with a book on Anti-Virus, depicting two computers talking to each other on its cover. This fascinated her and, interestingly enough, sparked in her little self the desire to become a software engineer for the first time. Today, Krithiha works as a Lead Engineer contributing to one of Samsung’s most recent ventures – Project Moohan, its extended reality (XR) headset.
Enabled with the opportunity to work on the latest tech within the first year of joining SRI-B, Krithiha feels privileged to be in an organization that gives her the space to learn and grow in her role. Despite having worked on embedding previously, she was given the chance to work on a completely new domain in SRI-B, having first worked on the AR Doodle feature of Samsung’s Galaxy devices before moving to XR – a technology domain that is still relatively new in the world.
She has also already visited South Korea twice in her three years at SRI-B, working closely with the Corporate team and Google to bring their latest innovation to life. Through this journey, she was not only given the chance to build her expertise in a new domain, but also got to witness first-hand the excitement, strategic planning and deep thinking that goes behind the introduction of a new gadget to the world. The feeling, she shares, is incredible.

“I’ve been lucky. Not many companies are working on this technology, so I’m not doing the regular things others are doing. It’s interesting and challenging every day since this is a completely new tech we are working on. Many times, we have no idea how to even make things work. But I love the challenge, so I am never bored”, she shares.
Krithiha particularly enjoys the focus on research and innovation that is prioritized in SRI-B, where everyone is encouraged to push boundaries, explore new ideas and create patents, even while contributing to development projects. “There is always room for ideation and learning, and we always see if we can bring something new to a project, even if it doesn’t succeed. That’s something I really love about working here”, she shares.
With established Centres of Excellence in Communication, Vision, Voice, On Device AI, Internet of Things and Services, SRI-B thrives on research and innovation and is currently the no.1 patent filer in India. With a vision to build the New Valley in SRI-B, the organization is committed to delivering breakthrough solutions that will define the future of technology.
