Samsung AI Center - Cambridge

Samsung is the global leader in consumer electronics and the core components that go into them. It produces products found in every room of the home, from televisions to smartphones. Samsung is now on a mission to embedded AI within all of these devices, while also seeking to invent the next generation of consumer products that AI can enable. Samsung’s network of global AI centers spearhead the company’s most ambitious research efforts in AI.

Cambridge is performing world-class blue-sky research with an open and collaborative approach to science. Cambridge AI Center is regularly published in top scientific venues such as CVPR, NeurIPS, ACL, Interspeech and MICRO, and has won several best paper prizes over the years. A common thread across Cambridge AI Center activities is world class excellence in algorithmic efficiency. That is, developing models that advance cutting edge of AI capability, while simultaneously being lightweight enough to run – and even continue to learn – on Samsung devices. This strategy has enabled Cambridge AI Center to benefit millions of consumers worldwide, via platforms such as Galaxy and Flip/Fold smartphones.

Current scientific interests of the Cambridge AI Center include the following research areas:

      • Future Interaction: Vision & Language, Large Scale Training, Video Understanding, Diffusion Models
      • Embedded AI: Efficient Foundation Model Architectures, AutoML, Model Compression, Federated Learning, Speech Recognition & Generation, NPU Hardware Design
      • Machine Learning & Data Intelligence: Meta-Learning, In-context Learning and LLMs, Bayesian Neural Networks, Neuro-Symbolic Learning, Neural Rendering
