Samsung Collegiate Programming Cup Terms and Conditions



1. Objective
  • (1) These terms and conditions (“Terms and Conditions”) are to govern and regulate the rights and obligations related to operation of Samsung Collegiate Programming Cup (“SCPC,”“Contest”) hosted by Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (“Samsung,”“we,”“us,”“our”) to encourage undergraduate and graduate students in the world to learn and study programming and to find talented programmers.
2. Eligibility
  • (1) If you are an undergraduate or a graduate student, you are eligible to participate in SCPC regardless of your major or age.
    * If you are an undergraduate or a graduate student on leave, you are also welcomed to take part in this Contest.
  • (2) If you ranked first in the previous Contest or you won 2nd place twice or more, you are not eligible to attend SCPC in order for us to allow more students to have chance to win this Contest.
3. Requirements to enter and how to enter
  • (1) You are required to apply for SCPC from 09:00 AM KST, May, 23, 2018 to 23:59:59PM KST, June, 20, 2018 (“Application Period”) at the official website of CodeGround (https://www.codeground.org), Samsung Research(https://research.samsung.com) after signing up for membership and providing information asked by Samsung.
  • (2) Only members of the official website will be able to participate in SCPC. In the event that you have applied for SCPC (“Participant,”“you” or “your”) and cancel your membership of the official website, we may disqualify your application and will not be liable for your loss, damage and/or disadvantage for disqualification.
  • (3) Your application for SCPC will only be allowed with one account to the official website. If you apply for SCPC with two or more accounts, your application is or will be disqualified; your advancement to Round 2 or Final Round is or will be cancelled; your event prize is or will be forfeited. We hold no liability for your loss, damage, and/or disadvantage.
  • (4) When creating an account, Participants are not allowed to use other member’s mobile phone number. If two or more user accounts are found sharing one mobile phone number, it is assumed that you have created two or more user accounts and shall be disqualified accordingly.
  • (5) Participants are allowed to change personal information excluding email address and nickname on our website during the Application Period. You are not permitted to change your email or nickname once your application is accepted during the Application Period.
  • (6) Samsung reserves the right to change email address, nickname, etc. in our sole discretion without any prior notice and notify you of such change if it is considered that they are defaming other’s reputation, disrespectful to traditional values and customs and/or disturbing the public orders of the society.After making the aforementioned changes, Samsung will notify you through the means chosen at our sole discretion.
  • (7) If you provide us with inaccurate information, you are solely liable for any loss, damage, and/or disadvantage caused by the information.
4. Contest structure
  • (1) SCPC has 3 rounds: Online Round 1, Online Round 2 and Onsite Final Round. Participants who pass the Round 1 will advance to Round 2 of SCPC. The Participants who pass Round 2 will advance to the onsite Final Round for SCPC.
  • (2) Round 1 and 2 will be conducted online. The Final Round will take place on the SAMSUNG Electronics R&D Campus in Seoul, Korea. The location of the Final Round may be changed as necessary at any time.
  • (3) You are required to submit your source codes (“Submissions”) to Samsung within the time provided andnotified by Samsung. Samsung will determine your placement based on performance of your Submissions provided to us within the given time.
  • (4) Samsung posts winners of each Round on its official website and does not notify the result to each Participant.
  • (5) Samsung will ask and confirm your participation by email or via phone call until fifteen (15) days before the onsite Final Round is held if you pass the Round 2. We may cancel your advancement to the Final Round if you do not confirm your participation, and select another Participant. However, we do not ask and confirm your participation for the advancement to the Round 2.
5. Your responsibility as a Participant
  • (1) You are asked to actively participate in the Contest and bear allexpenses needed for your participation in the Contest.
  • (2) Participants are not permitted to receive any support from other person or conduct any illicit activities including but not limited to hacking and data fabrication during the Contest. Furthermore, you are not allowed to conduct any activities infringingon other’s copyright and/or patent and violating laws and regulations.
  • (3) Participants are not allowed to provide, disclose and/or leak any of problems disclosed during Round 1 and 2 and onsite Final Round. You are also not allowed to use practice problems and previous Contest problems without consent from Samsung. In the event that you violate the aforesaid, you are obliged to compensateSamsung for damages.
6. Your rights and responsibility in Submissions
  • (1) You retain all rights to yourSubmissions; however, we may use or disclose to the third party the Submissions based upon your consent for judging and scoring or promotional purposes.
  • (2) If Samsung reasonably believes that your Submissions have been made by violating these Terms and Conditions, We reserve the right to exclude the Submissions from score calculation immediately.If your violation is found after awards have already given, your money prizes, gift and/or benefits will be forfeited. If you are being employed with Samsung based on the benefits awarded to winners of the Contest, your employment may be cancelled.
7. Protection of your Submissions
  • (1) Samsung will not provide and/or disclose your Submissions to a third party without your consent and take necessary measures to maintain confidentiality of your Submissions.
  • (2) You reserve the right to request us to destruct your Submissions once SCPC schedule ends. In the event that we receive your request to destroy your Submissions, we treat them as they were not submitted, and destruct your Submissions and their relevant materials.
8. Promotion of the Contest
  • (1) Samsung may produce promotional materials including but not limited to news articles related to this Contest, photos, audio, visual and audiovisual recordings in order to promote SCPC.
  • (2) Samsung may duplicate and edit the aforementioned promotional materials, post them online, and use them for online and offline promotional events, news articles, and broadcasting.
9. Prizes
  • (1) Samsung judges your Submissions and finalizes winners. Winners will be awarded with a prize and/or gift notified by Samsung in ranked order based on their scores.
10. Obligations of Winners
  • (1) Winners are solely responsible for paying all taxes imposed on money prizes and/or gift awarded to them. Samsung may not award you money prizes and/or gift in the event that you refuse to pay any applicable taxes.
  • (2) Winners are required to submit all documentation needed for money prizes and/or gift award to Samsung. We may forfeit your prize if you fail to provide the said documentation within fourteen (14) days of our request.
  • (3) Winners are asked to actively participate in the award ceremony of the Contest and its relevant events.
  • (4) In the event that Samsung fails to have enough participants satisfying requirements of the Contest, Samsung may reduce the number of award winners notified in its sole discretion.
11. Winner’s Benefits
  • (1) Winners of the Contest may have benefits when applying for Samsung in accordance with Samsung’s internal recruitment policy. However, the said benefits do not guarantee in any way your employment with Samsung and benefits may vary based on points scored by each winner.
12. Miscellaneous
  • (1) These Terms and Conditions and the member’s relationship with Samsung under these Terms and Conditions shall be governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea without regard to its conflict of law principles. By using this System, you conditionally consent and agree that any claim, dispute, or controversy (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) you may have against Samsung, its officers, directors, employees, or agents, arising out of, or relating to, or connected in any way with this System, will be finally resolved by arbitration to be held in Seoul, Korea and conducted in English under the Rules of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (“Rules”) by one (1) arbitrator who is designated in accordance with the above Rules. The arbitral award shall be final and binding on the parties. Except to the extent entry of judgment and any subsequent enforcement may require disclosure, all matters relating to the arbitration, including the award, shall be held in confidence
  • (2) Samsung is not liable to any injury, destruction, and/or loss caused by Participant’s negligence or resulted from any reasons not attributable to Samsung.
  • (3) Participants are responsible to submit their work on time by using appropriate means and we hold no liability for a failure in or delay of data processing and/or transmission due to Internet, device, equipment, software errors and/or other technical issues.
  • (4) Samsung may hold you accountable for interrupting efficient and seamless operation of this Contest provided that you violate these Terms and Conditions or use other means to hinder operation of the Contest.
  • (5) These Terms and Conditions are subject to change to ensure efficient and seamless operation of the Contest or resolve technical issues which might occur later on.
  • (6) Samsung reserves the right to cancel or change the schedule of the Contest based on at its sole discretion. Samsung may suspend or end the Contest in the event that we are not able to continue the Contest due to reasons beyond our control including but not limited to virus infection or technical failure in our system.
  • (7) In the event that objection arisesor data related issues occur during the Contest,Samsung’s Technical Committee will make efforts to resolve such issuesbased on the process below.
    - If wereasonablybelieve that such objection or data issues significantly affect the performance of Participants’ problem solving, the given time may be extended for the Participant related to the aforesaid issue or all Participants.
    - In the event that objection is raised or data related issue occurs after the Contest, the Technical Committee will review the issues and recalculate score points. Scores may change based on review results.
    - The decision made by the Technical Committee, which consists of examiners and members of the Organizer, is final and binding.
  • These Terms and Conditions will be in effect on Month, Day, 2017 and become effective when you provide consent to these Terms and Conditions posted on our official website or notified to you by other means. Please read these Terms and Conditions carefully if you want to create an account as they form a legally binding agreement between you and Samsung.
