Recent brilliant developments in communications technology and AI technology have accelerated the way devices connect and interact with each other more naturally, thereby making human life more convenient, and consumers' expectations are growing.
In order for many intelligent devices to appear smoothly to meet the needs of the market, and for various services and high quality contents to be driven, it is necessary to expand and develop OS platform function installed on devices.
Tizen, a Linux-based open-source platform, has been applied to multiple device categories including smart TVs, wearable devices, and various home appliances; and is getting stronger. Samsung Research tries it best to maintain Tizen as an optimal platform to support various products and services in the future.
To achieve this, we seek a platform that can support the creation of intelligent devices in convenient and efficient ways, in new Tizen products as well as existing products.
Also, for creative and innovative services utilizing intelligent and hyper-connectivity, we are working on providing service platform functionalities that developers can easily build.
It is also important to provide convenient development environment for easy installation and customization of Tizen for new devices in the future.
Finally, Samsung Research upgrades basic platform components to pursue continuous performance improvement or development productivity.
AI Core technologies are continuously mounted and optimized on Tizen and platform services utilizing AI technology elements are provided.
It means that on-device AI is implemented and operated within Tizen Platform. It also provides device-based differentiated AI features and services.
To leverage connectivity between devices, device interworking technologies such as advanced service discovery, communication mechanism between companion devices are developed. In addition, we are preparing de-facto standard protocol support, so that the expansion of connectivity between devices and things can further widen the service ecosystem.
To support various types of devices, the platform should not be dependent on hardware. It is necessary to ensure that the platform architecture, including improving the hardware abstraction layer(HAL), is designed and operated so that the part of device interface and modules driving on it are well separated. On the market, devices need to improve their functions or solve problems through software updates, and Samsung Research continues to reinforce the characteristics of the platform.
